Goody Good Friday!
Laughter, Acrobatics, Emotion. Just a few words to
describe the famous traveling circus,
Cirque du Soleil. Known for their lavishness, the
billion-dollar entertainment outfit is now pushing the
envelope with eco-friendly changes.
The company's first green step was placing recycling
bins at their Montreal headquarters. Five years later,
two touring shows have recycling bins, one of which is
Kooza.
For costumes, they use scrap materials which, after
being used, are placed daintly in a glass holiday
ornament and sold. This also includes the huge circus
tent, which is sliced and diced into messenger bags.
Cirque has experimented with running one of their
eight touring shows on biodiesel and is looking at
other methods of sustainable transport.
The company recently completed a headquarters
expansion that is nearly 100 percent sustainable. Its
main achievement is the complete recovery water
system, which uses reclaimed rainfall for all of the
building's sanitary, cleaning and irrigation needs.
So you want to know what Kooza is?
Well, find out for yourself!
It just so happens to be the one currently playing
under the Grand Chapiteau at Taylor Street Bridge in
San Jose until March 16!
For only one more month!
